THE iDOLM@STER no Koto

I’m pretty sure most of you know what the iDOLM@STER is…but if you don’t:

The Idolmaster (アイドルマスター, officially romanized as THE iDOLM@STER) is an arcade and console music rhythm game released only in Japan by Namco (now Namco Bandai) on July 26, 2005. It was released on the Xbox 360 on January 25, 2007. The game follows the career of a producer who works for the fictional 765 Production studio and has to work with a selection of nine prospective pop idols (two of them are a pair of identical twins).

My only exposure to the game was through videos from Nico Nico Douga or YouTube. And for the most part, they were pretty good…enough to make me want to play the game. But alas, I’m poor, I don’t have a 360, and I haven’t quite learned enough Japanese to play the game…>_> And so, because of that, my interest in THE iDOLM@STER eventually dropped to a level where I didn’t even watched any new videos and wasn’t “in the loop” anymore.

But a while ago, I came across “THE IDOLM@STER MASTER LIVE ENCORE” and decided to give a try…Since I’ve watched videos of the iDOLM@STER, I pretty much knew most songs and the song that rose my interest in the iDOLM@STER in the first place, GO MY WAY!!, was a lot different than what I remember so I wasn’t really impressed by the album. But there was something, or should I say, someone, that rose my interest in THE iDOLM@STER to sky high levels…

Otonashi Kotori.

If it wasn’t for the last three tracks of the album {two comments and one song} where Otonashi Kotori talked and sung, I probably would have brushed of THE iDOLM@STER once again. Like I said, my only exposure to the idols where by those user submitted videos of them dancing and singing, so I didn’t really know their personality.

Track 11 and 13 {and the first track too} of THE iDOLM@STER MASTER LIVE ENCORE had different sides of the idols I’ve never seen before. {Some of } the idols I only knew by watching videos, were filled with so much personality that for the past few weeks I’ve been listening to the iDOLM@STER albums just to hear them talk more! ^_^ Of course, I wanted to listen to the full length songs too!

What I didn’t know though, was that the albums had the same songs…I would have deleted them if it wasn’t for my realization that the songs were sung by different idols! ”’orz

The idols and their colorful personalities are one half of THE iDOLM@STER charm, the other half are the songs…and there are a lot of them with different genres, but mainly staying on the upbeat pop-ish songs. I have yet to listen to all the albums, but what I’ve listened so far has been pretty good. With current favorites being “Hana” and “Massugu (M@STER VERSION)“, a number that will slowly increase as I listen more and more to THE iDOLM@STER!

Ah, one more thing, enjoy the awesomeness of this video!! ^_^

  1. Kotori’s best song is easily “Sora” hands down which is found on the Master Artist Final CD. The other is Kotori’s version of “Massugu – Remaster B” which is an orchestral version of the original song on the Master Live 01 disk. There are some pretty amazing remixes on the Master Live series as well, such as Chihaya’s “Agent wo Yoru Yuku – Remaster B” which is a latin-style remix version of the original, feels *very* different to the original’s pop version even though the melody and lyrics are the same.

Keeping track of the songs are pretty tough as there are just too many Idolmaster CDs.

  2. @houkoholic: “Sora” is pretty good, but I prefer “Hana” as I have a soft spot for slower type songs…

I didn’t like the M@STER VERSION of that song, I think that “latin-style” fits the song very well.

I also like the REMASTER-A version by Yukiho, though it’s a bit odd for Yukiho of all idols to sing that rather ‘risque’ song! ^_^’

Agent is one of the standard songs in the game where all the idols have to sing their version of it. I guess it is sort of out of the left field to have Yukiho do the full version of the A version on CD, but that’s probably because they were cycling the singers around and get them to sing songs that are not usually associated with them for the A versions.
