53RG10’s Top Ten Anime Songs {Fall ’08}

vocaloid_kagaminerin

The end of the season is coming near, and that means I have had my share of anime OP and ED’s to listen to, so I once again bring you My Top Ten Anime Song for the previous anime season! Although I didn’t watch most anime this season, I paid a listen to all the OP and ED’s…but of course, the ones chosen will be from anime that I liked and ones that fit my personal taste.

I think this list might leave most people disappointed…

10. the generous – Dream Star

Skip Beat! Opening Song | Translation

I’ll admit it, this song made it here because I’m lovin’ Skip Beat!, at least it’s a pretty good song! ^_^’

09. Lia – Toki wo Kizamu Uta

CLANNAD ~After Story~ Opening Song | Translation

What’s this? What is this blasphemous thing 53RG10 just did? How can the OP for CLANNAD be rated so low?

Well, although it’s a very popular song and everyone seems to like it, I thought it fell short. The melody is there and the lyrics are there, but I just didn’t really ‘feel’ the song…hard to explain but oh well. Still a good enough song to end up on the list though! ^_^’

08. Kugimiya Rie – Akane-Iro Hometown

Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka Ending Song | Translation

I’m not really a fan of Kugimiya Rie’s singing. It’s either too high pitched or too cute. Akane-Iro Hometown, and also those songs on the Shirayuki Mizore CAPU2 character album, are a bit on the cute side, but they’re pretty good. She uses a lower voice and it isn’t too cute sounding.

Before I knew it, I have been repeating this song a few times and earned a place in my top ten!

07. Mai Goto – Egao no Chikara

ef -a tale of melodies. Ending Song | Translation

When you let your biased choices take over you, you end up putting a song you like just because you really REALLY like the character singing it rather than the song itself. And that’s the case with Egao no Chikara. Although it really is a good song, it got here riding solely on my love for Mizuki! ^_^’

06. Hashimoto Miyuki – Hatsukoi Parachute

Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka Opening Song | Translation

This song made it on the list solely because I’m addicted to it! ^_^’ I haven’t liked a Hashimoto Miyuki song this much since innocence.

05. Haruka Tomatsu – motto Hade ni ne!

Kannagi Crazy Shrine Maidens Opening Song | Translation

Although the promise of getting Tomatsu Haruka’s thighs shoved down my throat was a complete lie, this song earns a spot on this list.

But the reason it’s so high is because Tomatsu Haruka really surprised me with this song. I swear I didn’t know it was her until I read the credits. Her voice was way different than what I got used to by listening to Sekai de Ichiban Yabai Koi {Chika’s Character Song and one of the endings for Kyouran Kazoku Nikki} and the song on Sannomiya Shiho’s character album {Zettai Karen Children}…which were less than stellar. But this song, and anime for that matter, has shown us that Tomatsu Haruka is one to keep an eye on!

Tomatsu Haruka has shown a really diverse range in her voice. I’m looking forward to how she’s sound like playing Garlet in Shina Dark! ^_^ {She sounds pretty cool in that Shina Dark Vocal Album!}

04. Tommy heavenly6 – PAPERMOON

SOUL EATER Opening Song | Translation

It’s by Kawase Tomoko, enough said! ^_^

03. Chihara Minori – Paradise Lost

Ga-Rei -Zero- Opening Song | Translation

I have to admit that I haven’t been up to date with Chihara Minori. I have gotten her new stuff, but haven’t gotten around to listening to them. I probably would have also put aside this song for later listening if it wasn’t for me picking up Ga-Rei -Zero- halfway through this season.

This song made me remember why I liked Chihara Minori in the first place. She brings a great performance while pouring her feelings into the song she’s singing.

02. IKU – Rimless ~Fuchinashi no Sekai~

Toaru Majutsu no Index Ending Song | Translation

I’ve been keeping a look out for IKU since Hayate No Gotoku!, where she sung the fourth ending. If you’ve seen my other top ten list, you’ll know that I’m a sucker for slower type songs and soothing voice/singing. When I first heard Ko no Me Kaze, my attention was already in the grasp of IKU’s hand and hasn’t let go since then. And now, with Rimless ~Fuchinashi no Sekai~, I can clearly say IKU is one of my favorites new artist to come out and will be anticipating any new release by her! ^_^

Like most song taking my #1 spot, this song isn’t too flashy nor too in your face. A few instruments and a lovely voice is all that is needed to get my attention.

01. KANA – Reason

CASSERN Sins Ending Song | Translation

I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen CASSHERN Sins and I haven’t listened to this song until a while back, when it was released. I haven’t seen it, but I know the basic premise, and when I listened to the song, it became an instant favorite.

It wasn’t because it “fit” with the anime’s theme, but because the lyrics were so touching and the vocals sounded so melancholic, complimenting the tone of the song really well!

And thus another slow song earns the #1 one spot! ^_^

Honorable Mentions

These are songs that didn’t earn a spot in my top ten, but are worth a mention and a recommendation.

  • F.D.D – Itou Kanako | CHAOS;HEAD OP
  • Yume no Ashioto ga Kikoeru – Muzuhara Kaoru | Ga-Rei -Zero- ED
  • Beautiful Fighter – Angela | Shikabane Hime Aka OP
  • PSI-missing – Kawada Mami | Toaru Majutsu no Index OP
  • MY WINGS – Karen Girls’ | Zettai Karen Children OP

  1. Yay! Clannad, Kannagi, Soul Eater and Ga-Rei made it into your list! Haruka Tomatsu really did great this year. I’m looking forward on hearing more from her ^_^. (and about her thighs… yeah I fail XD)

  2. Heh, and to think that I actually somehow managed to listen to about 4 of those really in depth. Though based on that, I should probably get around to cobbling my list together even if there’ll be similar picks to what you have written there.

  3. Ah. I guess water temp testing all the first episodes had always been a good move. I haven’t been watching CASSHERN Sins since the first episode but “Reason” stayed in my favorite playlist. Better than never discovering the song at all by not watching the first ep. ^^

As for “Toki wo Kizamu Uta”, I’m hoping to hear a piano version of it. I absolutely love “Onaji Takami e”, in which part of “Toki wo Kizamu Uta”‘s melody is based. :)

  4. @Keiri: Isn’t there a Clannad/Tomoyo After Piano Album someplace? IIRC, the first track on that album is a rearranged version of “Onaji Takami e.” It might be to your liking since Clannad piano arrangements can never be a bad thing.

  5. @ zzeroparticle
Nice to know there’s an expert on this subject. :)

Thanks for the recommendation! Visual Art’s/Key’s piano arrangement albums are definitely ones which I’m very willing to fork out cash for. :D
