53RG10’s Top 10 Anime Songs {Character Version}

I’ll confess right here and right now: I don’t own that many character songs to begin with, so there really is no point in making something like this if I have a limited collection. If anything, this will be a really weak list…But hell, I wanted to write about my top ten favorite character songs from the small collection that I have. Maybe with this, I’ll be motivated to listen to more character tracks and probably make a new post…or a revision! ^_^

For reference sake…and to shamelessly get more views on these post…not that they need any since they’re the most viewed ^_^’, here are my other “Top 10 Anime Songs”:

53RG10’s Top 10 Anime Songs {OP Version}
53RG10’s Top 10 Anime Songs {ED Version}

And just like the other Top 10, here are a few rules to make this harder and more interesting:

  • Only characters songs. This can be image songs or song sung while in ‘character’.
  • No songs from recent anime, this is to take away any recent effects.
  • No two songs from the same anime, to make it harder!
  • No song from characters who I don’t know about.

”’orz That last rule just rejected the majority of character songs that I have…so no matter how much I want to include “~Negai~” by: Nakahara Mai from the “Que Perfect Vocal Collection”…I cannot… :( But, I still have a nice amount so let’s get with it!

10 – Momose Kurumi – Roulette*Roulette (Kurumi Ver.)

Singer/Seiyuu: Ueda Kana
Anime: Pani Poni Dash!

Starting things off with a nice up-beat and catchy song! Seriously, this song makes me want to sing along! This is actually the OP song for Pani Poni Dash!, but since this version is sung by Momose Kurumi it classifies as a song “sung while in character”. It’s the same as the version sung by Ichijou-san {Nonaka Ai}, but I like Ueda’s version more than Nonaka Ai {too cutsey}! ^_^

09 – Shiho Elis – Satisfaction

Singer/Seiyuu: Miyazaki Ui
Anime: Night Wizard

I’m starting to like Miyazaki Ui voice more and more. Ever since she went emo over at Gift ~Eternal Rainbow~, she has been on my “Pay attention to:” list. {It’s not a real list, I just made it up!! ^_^ } And with the awesome OP that she sung for Night Wizard, I just had to listen to her character’s {Shiho Elis} Character Ablum. And long story short, I liked it enough for it to earn a spot on my Top Ten!! But Himuro Akari {red hair} >> Shiho Elis!!

08 – Hoshino Asami – Haru no KISS

Singer/Seiyuu: Nakahara Mai
Anime: Myself;Yourself

Myself;Yourself actually has some pretty good character songs…except for that Aoi one, you’ll go deaf if you manage to finish it…>_> and it was hard trying to pick from the ones that I liked. And although Nanaka’s song was also very good, I like Asami’s song more. Must be the Nakahara Mai…and the lesbian…factor!! ^_^’ But seriously, I liked the slow and calm feel of the song earning it the #8 spot.

07 – Asakura Ryouko – COOL EDITION

Singer/Seiyuu: Kuwatani Natsuko
Anime: The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi

Asakura Ryouko is one bad-ass character that left us without having enough screen time. But the time that she did get earned her a nice following from creepy guys who like girls with knives…myself included! ^_^ And her character album is the best out of the Suzumiya Haruhi bunch. Specifically “COOL EDITION” where she uses that famous phrase she said before attacking Kyon!!

06 – Suzuhara Misaki – Fly Your Sky

Singer/Seiyuu: Enomoto Atsuko
Anime: Angelic Layer

It’s not a secret that I’m a huge Angelic Layer fan. I’ve said time and time again that it was my first anime and manga experience, so it’s not really a surprise to see something Angelic Layer related on my Top Ten…and in this list I include Misaki’s Song “Fly Your Sky”. Truthfully, I don’t know if this is an actual character song, but since it’s sung by Misaki’s seiyuu…I just say it is! ^_^’

05 – Etoh Mei – RULE de MY Chitsujo!

Singer/Seiyuu: Hirano Aya
Anime: Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!

I think this is my most played character song in this list, but that’s because I played it over and over while my Hirano Aya fanboy-ism was at an all time high. But even after those effects have died down, I still think this song is pretty good…for a character song that is. One reason I still like it is because this is one of the few songs where Hirano Aya sings in her lower, and better, toned voice! My translation HERE if anyone is interested…

04 – Nishizawa Ayumu – Ganbare Kataomoi

Singer/Seiyuu: Takahashi Mikako
Anime: Hayate no Gotoku!

There are a few reasons why this song is ranked so high even if it’s new, I got it about a month ago. One, because “Hamster” Ayumu rocks. Two, because Takahashi Mikako has been growing on me more and more the more I hear her in anime or her songs. And three, this songs shows her determination at vying for Hayate’s love! I also want to mention “Kimi ga Iru Kara ~Just Windy Love~” because that one also shows Ayumu’s unrequited love. GO HAMSTER!!!

03 – Zenigata Mawari – GAP

Singer/Seiyuu: Morinaga Rika
Anime: Seto no Hanayome

This is one of the rare instances where I have heard Morinaga Rika sing, and I’ve heard she’s in a goth rock band named Function Code() or something. Dunno about that, but this song, GAP, is so awesome. I actually like it more than Shiranui’s bad-ass song Rasen. But my biased love for Mawari overtook my judgment and chose this one instead! ^_^ Both GAP and Rasen were the best outta the Seto no Hanayome bunch anyways!

02 – Izumi Kanata – Shiawase Negau Kanata Kara

Singer/Seiyuu: Shimamoto Sumi
Anime: Lucky Star

I’ve only heard a few character songs from Lucky Star…and they were less than mediocre, but I knew that along the way we would get Kanata’s song that she sung in episode 22 where her ghost came to visit Konata and her dad. If you’ve seen that episode, or heard this song, you’ll know why it’s ranked so high. It’s such a nice slow and beautiful song dedicated to Soujiro {Konata’s dad}. Shimamoto Sumi’s soft voice adds to the tenderness of the song.

01 – Minaguchi Tomo – Watashi wo Sagashite

Singer/Seiyuu: Shihono Ryou
Anime: Lemon Angel Project

Anyone who watched Lemon Angel Project or listened to the character songs would say that Chihara Minori’s “Smile Means Love” is the better one. But as much as I like Chihara Minori and disliked Tomo’s voice, I liked her singing voice a lot more. I may not have heard from Shihono Ryou since then, but this slow mellow song about searching oneself is my favorite character song that I have.

And there you have it, my weak list of my Top Ten Favorite Anime Songs {Character Version}. Because I have such a weak collection, I think I’ll do another one of these when I have a hefty list of character songs to choose from. But you won’t be seeing that anytime soon…>_>

I noticed that there’s a huge time gap between my Top Ten Lists! ^_^

  1. COOL EDITION Rocks!!! It’s one of my fave character songs up until now! IMO, Natsuko Kuwatani sang in character and did it very well.

  2. RULE de MY Chitsujo!! <3<3 I really loved Aya Hirano’s voice on that CD. I find her Konata/Haruhi one unbearable. COOL EDITION is probably my second favourite from this list. Out of the Myself;Yourself songs, my favourite was Hajimete no Kiss, but apparently Haru no Kiss is my third favourite (according to plays on my Ipod).
